Want to try out for Special Olympics swim team or just swim for fun?

For children and young adults with special needs

Team Elite Oklahoma

Team Elite is a swim program for Tulsa-area children and young adults with special needs. Aligning with the Special Olympics mission, Team Elite will provide opportunities for team participants to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Who Can Join?

Children and young adults who have a physical, emotional, or intellectual disability/limitation that precludes them from participating in a traditional swim program are eligible to join Team Elite. Right now, our oldest swimmer is early 20’s, but we do not have a set age limit. You do not have to attend a certain school or live in a certain area to participate.

Where and When?

Practices are currently held at Genesis Health Club in Broken Arrow at 2360 W. Kenosha St. (71st and 145th) on Mondays at 7 p.m. and Fridays at 4:30 p.m. Swimmers can attend practices as able. You do not have to attend both practices.

Does my swimmer have to participate in Special Olympics swim meets?

No, they are welcome to just come to practices and get some exercise.

Does my swimmer need to know how to swim already?

No, but these are not “learn to swim” lessons. Swimmers do not have to be independent swimmers, floatation devices can be used. However, if your swimmer needs to have someone in the pool with them to provide close supervision or assistance, someone will need to accompany them to practice and get in the pool with them, as our coach does not currently have assistants.

What is the cost?

The swim season will run from September – January. Our team fee is $50 and will cover all group practices for the season.

The swim team won’t work for us, but I might be interested in private swim lessons.
