Mission Statement or primary goal of coalition:
The Garfield County Sooner SUCCESS coalition is dedicated to building and supporting inclusive communities for children with special needs and their families.
Past coalition projects, awards, highlights and/or accomplishments:
Distribution of a Garfield County Resource Directory for individuals with special needs and their families and providers.
Provided Disability Story Sessions and Kids on the Block puppet programs for county elementary students.
Hosted 2 Play Matters Leadership Academies for Teens & Young Adults with Special Needs.
Partnered with the Oklahoma Dental Foundation to bring the Mobile Dental Van to county schools.
Provided waiting room book displays of children’s books featuring children with special needs.
Implemented a free respite program for children 1-12 with special needs and their siblings.
Provided support and assistance to start a local Systems of Care program for children with behavioral health needs.
Provided support and assistance to start a local Sibshop supporting siblings of children with special needs.
Provided support and assistance to for the Garfield County ABCD 3 project focused on promoting the use of early developmental screening and early intervention services.
Provided technical assistance and inclusive childcare training for area childcare providers. Provided stimulus for creation of a Special Needs Resource library at Childcare Finders.
Current areas of need the group is working on:
Increasing use of SoonerCare program by eligible families.
Increasing the use of plain language in medical and social service care plans.
