Caring Santa for Children with Special Needs Set for Dec. 8 in Collinsville
Published: Tuesday, November 14, 2017
Caring Santa is making his way back to his workshop and stopping at Current Church in Collinsville on his way home. He wants to make sure he visits with your child with special needs, so he’s scheduled to stop by Current Church located at 14133 N 137th E Ave., which is just east of Highway 169 near Collinsville, Dec. 8, 4-8 p.m.
Caring Santa is sponsored by Sooner Success Rogers/Tulsa counties, Current Church Collinsville, Embrace Life Counseling in Owasso, and Photography by Melodie Rhae of Owasso. It is a unique experience, where children with special needs and their families schedule a specific time with Santa in an environment set up to support the sensory needs and accommodate other disabilities including physical and other developmental needs of children. Snacks, games, crafts and goodie bags (one per family) will be provided by volunteers from the church and additional volunteers.
“Sooner Success Rogers/Tulsa counties hosted two of these events last year, and they were a hit with not only the children, but the families as well. It was touching to see how Santa connected, for the first time, with a teenager with special needs. Or seeing a child “sign” in Santa’s hands. The environment is perfect for children of all levels of disabilities and special needs,” said Tonda Ames, Rogers and Tulsa county coordinator for Sooner Success. “We are thankful for all of our partners to help make this happen.”
Free photos with Santa will be provided by Photography by Melodie Rhae. A link to her website and the photos will be provided to families the night of the event. Families can then go to the website and download the pictures for free.
Scheduled times are filling up fast. To schedule a time please call 918-712-0340 or email: Tonda-ames@ouhsc.edu by December 1.
