“I just don’t have the time to do the leg work it takes to find the information about services for my daughter. I feel that I have an assistant in this unique and difficult journey….”

“Without a respite opportunity, I never would have time for myself to go shopping at a local antique store. It just wouldn’t happen.”

These are actual quotes from parents of children with special needs who were able to participate in Sooner SUCCESS respite and Sibshops thanks to grants and funding. These are just two of the many programs Sooner SUCCESS provides in 17 Oklahoma counties. Without grants and fundraising, many of the programs Sooner SUCCESS provides wouldn’t be available. Through the “Care to Bowl, Caregivers are Super Heroes” fundraiser, Sooner SUCCESS will be able to help more parents and caregivers with resources they need. Sooner SUCCESS also serves family statewide with resource information to assist families raising a child with special needs. The program, under the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center’s Child Study Center, helps families regardless of income and/or their child’s special health care need or disability at no cost to the families.

“Care to Bowl, Caregivers are Super Heroes” is set for July 21 at Heritage Lanes in Oklahoma City from 1- 4 p.m.  Bowling will cost $25 per bowlers or a team of five for $125. New this year, is a reduced price of $15 for Special Olympic Athletes or $75 for a Special Olympics Team.

“You can help by putting together a bowling team, sponsoring a team, or donating directly to the fundraiser. Your monetary donation is tax deductible.

“The purpose of Sooner SUCCESS is to promote a comprehensive, coordinated system of health, social and educational services for Oklahoma children and youth with special needs...in their community.  Sooner SUCCESS addresses barriers by promoting community capacity and infrastructure spread in communities and at regional and state levels. These programs range from respite, to Sibshops, to county and community-wide events and programs to strengthen more inclusive communities,” said Sooner SUCCESS State Director Aietah Stephens.

“Last year was our first bowling event and it was a huge success.  We are thrilled to be able to open this up for Special Olympians this year. And like last year, we will have a wide variety of silent auction items including a night’s stay with golf and dinner at the Hard Rock Hotel in Catoosa, Ok, Kendra Scott jewelry, four all-day passes to Andy’s Alligator Water Park, as well as a party package that includes a photo session and a dozen professionally decorated cookies.
